Selecting a marquee for 50 people.

Choosing the right marquee size for 50 guests depends on how the event is set up—seated dining, cocktail-style, or a mix of both with a dance floor and catering space.

For a seated banquet using trestle tables and chairs, you should allow around 1.2–1.5 square metres per person. For 50 guests, this means approximately 60–75 square metres of space. A 6m x 10m marquee (60sqm) will fit a tight setup, while a 6m x 12m marquee (72sqm) is the more comfortable and commonly recommended option, allowing room for tables, a buffet area, and easy movement.

For cocktail-style events where guests are standing and mingling, you can reduce space to about 0.8–1 square metre per person. In this case, a 6m x 6m marquee (36sqm) may suit smaller, casual gatherings, while a 6m x 9m (54sqm) provides a more relaxed layout with space for bar tables and catering.

If you plan to include a dance floor, DJ, or larger food service area, it’s best to step up to a 6m x 12m or even a 6m x 15m marquee for comfort.

When in doubt, always size up slightly to ensure guests can move freely and enjoy the event without feeling crowded.
